Live Chat on Facebook with Elle's Creative Director Joe Zee!

Style questions? Ask Elle's Creative Director Joe Zee live on Facebook

How excited was I when I clicked open my email this morning to see that my favorite magazine, Elle, has teamed up with Rue La La to bring us a live chat session with their creative director, Joe Zee! Now, I'm not going to pretend to be a 'Hill's' or 'City' fan, but after chatting with Mr. Zee it almost made me consider tuning in. Almost.

Mr. J-Zee was very gracious, helpful, fun and most of all, very likable during his two hour chat session with a fluctuating audience of 300-ish like-minded fashionistas and fashionistos. I totally wanted his Pin to BBM him after the chat, I felt like we were cool enough to catch a cocktail after work; on a side note, we definitely are not cool like that :le sigh:, but I digress.
-----------------------------------------------------------------
Here are some of  Joe's Q&A's, tips, trend reports, fun facts, pet peeves, and/or general style gospel for you to graze.
DO: leopard, yellow, vintage shopping, high seam 50's inspired pony tails, contrast, mix & match luxe+budget.

- All Decades are making a come back; especially 90's grunge-minimalism. The 50's silhouette was seen by Prada, the 60's ala Balenciaga, 70's done by Chloe, and 90's grunge tba.

- Pair your your best $19.95 H&M dress with a chic cardigan from Target, and shoes from a seller on Ebay, top it off with a designer bangle from Rue La La and you have yourself some price cut couture.
- Everyone can wear some style of dress for the summer. Find the right style for your body type here. Some quick tips to help make that dress a smidge more flattering; shorter girls wearing a Maxi dress, try belting it.

DON'T: wear poor fitting pieces, be a trend victim, be a slave to conventional fashion rules!
- Change up the rules, better yet toss them out! Don't worry about white after labor day, stomp your boots in the summer, flip-flop through winter (if you can stand the snow on your toes), mixing brown with black, or blue with black, or for that matter any color with black. By ditching the matchy-matchy stuffy rules you may be surprised what you can create.

Day to Night: Pair an 80's glam crop or tux jacket with a distressed tee to rock during the day, and transform your look into night chic by

Pet Peeve: Location is to real estate, as fit is to fashion. No doubt you've heard the phrase, 'location, location, location' during an apartment/house hunt. Well, now you should apply that to your own clothing, only it is now - fit, fit, fit. A good seamstress can be your best friend, especailly if you are shopping on a budget. You can find great designer pieces at Nordstom Rack, Outlets, Vintage stores; but the key to a great steal is fit. Just like a great pair of shoes, if they don't fit you can't do anything with them.

Fahion Faux Paux: Trend overload. Trends are fun, they keep fashion fresh; but, they can also be a very fickle friend. You need to develop an editing eye and decide what trends work for your style and your body. Let's get real, I love skinny jeans. Like LOVE them. But honestly I cannot rock them even in my wildest dreams. So I admire them from a far, and buy jeans that flatter me. No matter how cute the trend if it doesn't make you cute, just say no! Don't freat dolls, a trend will roll around that was made for you. Myself, I embrace the Maxi dress; and take comfort in knowing someone, somewhere wish they looked as good as me in it!

3 Essential Pieces for your closet: 1.) Black pumps  2.) Trench coat  3.) Jeans

Mr. Zee's no. 1 style tip...
c-o-n-f-i-d-e-n-c-e: 'this season is not about the label, the bag, the shoe; it's confidence.'
confidence. genius. how simple, and low budget.
